If the course requires the completion of a Placement Preference Form, it will be sent via email during the first week of classes. Students will need to complete this and submit ONLINE by pm, Monday, 9/2/13.
If a Placement Preference Form is not required; the student must complete a CBL Profile Form and submit it ONLINE by pm, Monday, 9/6/13.

Placement Notification and On Campus Orientation with Community Mentor (CM)
Students will be notified of their Community Placement, contact information and assigned Community Mentor (CM) by Friday, 9/6/13 via email.
All placements begin with attending an on campus orientation with the CM the first week and then meeting with the Community Partner Supervisor on site the second week of placement to orient the student on responsibilities and agency specific policies.
PLEASE NOTE: Any required forms must be received to begin the placement or the placement will be delayed.
The contract clarifies expectations, roles/responsibilities, researches the placement site and assists in gaining a better understanding of connections between the placement and the course.
If the contract is not received by Monday, 9/30/13 ONLINE, this contract is not received by the deadline; the placement will be suspended until received.
On occasion, the CCE staff or the professor will arrange transportation for a course; however this is not guaranteed. If this is the case, a SLU vehicle will be reserved for class use.
Driver Certification: If a SLU vehicle is reserved, all students over 18 years of age with a valid US issued driver’s license are strongly encouraged to become a Certified Driver and to rotate driving responsibilities. Students will be given two weeks’ after notification of placement decisions to complete the Driver Certification training and approval process through the Security & Safety office. If after two weeks there are no Certified Drivers within a group traveling, the vehicle reservation will be canceled and the student(s) will need to find their own transportation.
If Transportation is NOT Scheduled by the CCE Staff or the Professor, it is the individual student's responsibility to find transportation to and from the placement. With this said it is very important when selecting CBL placement sites that the student chooses a placement that fits their individual transportation needs. For more information on Transportation needs: www.stlawu.edu/center-civic-engagement/transportation-policy
PLEASE NOTE: It is not the responsibility of the professor, the Community Mentor, the Community Partner Supervisor or the CBL staff to provide rides to and from the CBL placement site or to be the Certified Driver for the SLU vehicle.
We recognize that illnesses occur and that these situations cannot be anticipated. With this said the CBL office implements the following attendance policy as it pertains to the CBL component to a course. If a student is absent from any CBL requirement, it is the responsibility of the individual student to notify the Community Partner Supervisor in advance and schedule a make-up day/time.
APPROVED ABSENCES: 2 sessions of either training/orientation or a weekly placement may be missed if at least one (1) of the following conditions is met:
- It is related to a severe illness or hospitalization and an email or call is made to the Community Mentor immediately
- It is due to an athletic or course commitment that cannot be rearranged and the Community Mentor is given 7 days notice
- It is due to another nature, the Community Mentor is notified at least 2 weeks in advance and a make-up day/time is arranged
PLEASE NOTE: After 2 missed sessions occur, the student may be removed from the associated placement and the CBL Office will not be responsible for finding a replacement and the course grade may be compromised as a result.
