A not for profit, intervention program for youth-at-risk, blending traditional
therapy and adventure-based activities. AE is a year long intervention program
for youth ages 10-18 years, located in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack
Mountains. The SLU interns will be assigned to 2 youths and will be required
to provide a minimum of four contact hours per week per participant. Contact
hours will include a minimum of two unsupervised hours per week/per participant
in the school. An additional two hours, for the total of fours hours, will
be spent in the home supervised with the participant and her parent(s).

- Provides crisis intervention, advocacy, and individual counseling
for primary and secondary victims (family members, significant
others) of rape, child sexual abuse, incest, other forms of sexual
assault and sexual harassment.
- Offers educational presentations to community groups, businesses,
area schools and colleges.
- Provides group counseling for adult women who experience child
sexual abuse.
- Provides victim advocacy/accompaniment to hospital, police station,
court, etc.
- Conducts group treatment for incest offenders and partners referred
by the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.
- Assists victims of any crime in the filing for financial compensation
through the NYS Crime Victims Board.
- Offers education programs for the school, public, and professional
groups.
- Provides transportation for victims of sexual violence to a
variety of appointments.
- Seeks volunteers to assist as part of their after-hours response
team (providing counseling and accompaniment as needed), and also
to assist with fund-raising.

Residents at ROSE HILL are involved in two hours of education each
weekday. During that time you will be doing homework that is coordinated
with your home school. A second part of education at ROSE HILL is called
Life Skills. You will learn concepts and theories designed to assist you
to develop maturity and the ability to make critical decisions. These are
designed for you to get in touch with the "sober" way to live a
happy, healthy more fulfilling life. Upon arriving at ROSE HILL the teacher
will sit down and discuss with you a personal education plan. Generally,
one of three choices is taken. The usual choices are 1) Homework-coordinated
with home school, 2) GED Preparation, and 3) College and/or Vocational Preparation.
It is understood that all people are unique individuals with special needs
and everything possible will be done to accommodate your learning needs.
Family services include:
• Orientation and education for all family members
• Ongoing support by phone
• Family sessions twice a month, or as needed
• Negotiation of a behavior contract between you and your family for expected
behavior at home
• Referrals, as necessary, for ongoing family counseling

Organization Description:
Juvenile Services: Offers a voluntary service which helps
resolve problems outside the courtroom for PINS (persons in need of supervision)
or JD's (juvenile delinquents). A PINS is defined as a juvenile (under the
age of 16) who is incorrigible, ungovernable and habitually disobedient beyond
the control of his/her parent or authority figure. A JD is someone between
7 and 16 years of age who has committed and act which, if he/she was an adult,
would be considered a crime. Operates the Juvenile Conference Committee (JCC)
which "hears" cases of juvenile delinquency which do not require
probation or a court hearing. This is a voluntary service. Supervises youths
placed on probation by Family Court.
Family Services Intake: Offers a voluntary service which
helps resolve family problems without direct court attention. Assist people
with marital or personal problems, alcohol abuse, substance abuse, home or
community difficulties. These problems may fall under the jurisdiction of
Family Court, and include such problems as paternity, custody, visitation,
child support, family offense, conciliation, adoption and guardianship.
Other Services:
Supervision - Provides supervision to all persons sentenced
to probation by the courts. Investigations -Prepares all
precedence investigations which assist the criminal courts in determining
appropriate sentences. Prepares disposition and custody/visitation investigations
for the Family Court. Alternatives to Incarceration -Provides a wide range
of ATI programs, including Pretrial Release, Electronic Monitoring, Community
Service, Day Reporting & Treatment Center, and Intensive Supervision.
