1. When did you complete your internship?
I completed my internship in the summer of 2007

2. How did you discover the internship opportunity?
Through the company website and another student who had interned with the company.

3. Was your internship alumni-sponsored?
No, but before I submitted my information, I had a very kind and helpful alum in the organization look over my application and recommend me to Recruiting.  I also talked to him during my interview preparations and of course, I benefited from corresponding with him.

4. Where was your internship located and for what company?
New York City – Lehman Brothers

5. Please describe the daily tasks required of you for the internship.
I worked on a trading floor environment, so as an intern I was in the office by 6:45 am preparing a market review for the daily morning meeting. I was staffed on specific projects and was required to listen to the conference calls and all the client calls pertaining to the project.

6. What is one accomplishment from the internship that you are particularly proud of?
Enhancing my presentation skills - At the end of my internship, it was required of me to make a presentation of one of our financial product to the whole group.

7. What was the most challenging part of your experience?
Adjusting to the trading floor environment - As an open working space, the trading floor distinguishes itself from the office environment as it requires a certain level of aggressiveness.  This was a challenge at the beginning of my internship but my manager pushed me to be more aggressive and loud.

8. Did this experience help you narrow down or decide upon a future career path? Please elaborate.
Yes.  I always wanted to work in the field of Finance and spending the summer confirmed my interests.

9. Would you recommend this internship experience to other St. Lawrence students?
Yes. Try it out, you stand to learn a lot and who knows, maybe you will like it.  If you don’t, then you will know that this is not the right field for you.

10. What advice would you give to students who are looking to pursue an internship opportunity?
It never hurts to start an internship search early.  You are able to learn about what you might be interested in and connect with alumni or any other people in the industry. Participate in the Shadow-A-Saint program if you can. Do visit the Career Services office; the people are nice there and always willing to work with you and point you in a certain direction.
