The BPW Foundation established the Career Advancement Scholarship Program in 1969 to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged women seeking to further their education. Scholarships are provided to women who wish to advance in their careers, or are soon to enter or re-enter the workforce. The Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships, grants, and loans to over 8,000 women seeking to improve their lives.

To be eligible to compete for a Career Advancement Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a female
  • Be 25 years of age or older
  • Be a US citizen
  • Demonstrate critical financial need
  • Be officially accepted into an accredited program or course of study at a US institution, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
  • Graduate within 12 to 24 months from date of grant
  • Demonstrate clear career plans
  • Not be earning a PhD, MD, DDS, DVM, JD, or similar degree

Provides fellowship support to talented African, Hispanic, and Native Americans enrolled in MBA programs at member universities of the consortium (Indiana U., U. of Michigan, NYU, U. of North Carolina Chapel Hill, U. or Rochester, U. of So. California, U. of Texas, U. of Vermont, Washington U.-St. Louis, and U. of Wisconsin). A background in business is not required for admission or a fellowship through the Consortium; however you must have a bachelor's degree. Individuals who aspire to managerial career in business, government, or non-profit organizations are invited to apply. Applications will be accepted from college seniors or those holding a bachelor's degree in any academic discipline from an accredited institution recognized by the member universities.

The Foundation makes available to female students majoring in Finance or Economics 25 scholarships to pursue a corporate business career in the private sector. They specifically target women majoring in economics or finance because they believe that these women will likely become tomorrow's CEO's or CFO's of major manufacturing companies. There are no age or geographic restrictions, however, a candidate must have determined the college she will be attending and have specific career goals.

DEADLINE: Applications must be requested in writing by March 1 for the following year.
