  1. How to Research - Employer and industry research can be done using a variety of means. One of the increasingly common means of research is the internet. Career Services and Leadership Education has purchased access to a variety of useful industry and/or employer research sites. They include:
    Vault.com - Vault.com is a great site to do in depth company research. St. Lawrence pays an annual fee for increased access to vault.com which includes company and industry guides from 60-300 pages in length any student can download for free. It also includes career profiles, informational interviews, internship information, graduate and professional school resources, and industry advice. (Note: This site password protected)

    1. Lexis Nexis - Company Research Information drawn from a wealth of sources (Note: This site is only accessible from a campus computer)
    2. JobWeb.com - Created especially for students by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the site allows you to research employers and industries, find salary information, and access articles on a variety of career-related topics.
    3. Homefair - Includes a salary calculator that allows you to compare cost of living in different cities and states.
    4. Hoovers.com - Comprehensive company, industry and market intelligence that drives business growth and includes a database of 12 million companies, with in-depth coverage of 30,000 of the world's top business enterprises.
    5. WetFeet.com - Allows you to get career advice, do research on companies, industries, cities, salaries, and more, and find jobs.
    6. Riley Guide - targeting and researching companies
    7. Career Search - "Career Search is a powerful on-line employment research tool with a database of more than 1.5 million employers from every major sector in business and academia". It does not list jobs, but it is a great tool to find company and contact information based on industry, geographic region, and/or keyword searches. (Note: This site password protected)

  1. Employer Websites - A great deal of important company research can and should be done using the company's own website. These can often be found doing a simple internet search using a search engine such as google.com
  1. Our Files - come to Career Services and Leadership Education to do the next step in employer research and visit our employer files. We are often sent informational packets from employers and keep them on file for your research.
  1. The CRL - In addition to the employer files, the Career Resource Library in Career Services and Leadership Education has additional employer and industry information. We have some Vault guides to employers and industries ranging from 60-200 pages.
