Passover Seder

The St. Lawrence University community Passover Seder will be held in the Sykes Common Room on Monday, April 10th at 5:30 p.m. The seder will be led by Mark Lowell. Cost is $21.50 for adults, $7 for children 5-12, and free for children under 5.  St. Lawrence University students may use their meal cards. Please email Marcia Bradley at mbradley@stlawu.edu by Thursday, April 6 to make reservations. 

Sara McKinnon: Failing States: Transnational Imaginations of Violent México

Sara L. McKinnon, Associate Professor of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, talks about violence in México to understand their geopolitical stakes and material consequences. Since the mid-2000s U.S. discourse about México has consolidated around widely circulating images of the country as rampant with narco-violence, out-of-control sicarios and gangs, mass graves, brutal killings, and people on the move out of the country for safety elsewhere.

Writers Series presents Kelly Grey Carlisle

Kelly Grey Carlisle’s memoir, We Are All Shipwrecks, is forthcoming in 2017. Set in Los Angeles, it tells the story of her mother’s murder, possibly at the hands of the Hillside Stranglers, and Carlisle’s own eccentric childhood living on a boat with her grandfather, a larger-than-life Englishman and purveyor of pornography. Her personal essays have appeared in Ploughshares, Salon.com, The Rumpus, New England Review, The Sun, and The Touchstone Anthology of Contemporary Creative Nonfiction.

Nick Penniman

 

The St. Lawrence University chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, will host Nick Penniman at 7:30 on Monday, Dec. 5, in the Sykes Common Room. The event is free and open to the public.
