Procedures for Shopping at Wal-Mart, BJ's
Wholesale Club, and Dollar General
Wal-Mart
Purchases for the university may be made at Wal-Mart
with the University
Purchasing card. Walmart requires that the purchaser also present
a Wal-Mart Tax Exempt card to the cashier in order for the sale
to be considered tax exempt. This card must be presented to the
cashier before the sale is registered. If it is presented afterwards,
the cashier will be required to void the entire sale, enter the
University's tax code to the register, and then record the sale
a second time.
Most employees that have a University Purchasing
card also have a Wal-Mart Tax Exempt card. If you do not have a
Wal-Mart Tax Exempt card and wish to make a purchase for the University
at Wal-Mart, please contact your departmental secretary or Brigett Ritchie in the Business Office to obtain one.
BJ's Wholesale Club
Purchases for the university may be made at BJ's
Wholesale Club with the University
Purchasing card. BJ's requires that the purchaser also present
a BJ's membership card which indicates the university's tax exempt
code to the cashier. The cashier will request to see the membership
card prior to recording the sale and the membership card will notify
the cashier that the sale is tax exempt.
Employees who regularly purchase goods for the
University at BJ's have a membership card which they keep in their
possession. Employees that shop at BJ's infrequently may obtain
the University's Company Card from
Brigett Ritchie in the Business Office to take to BJ's to make their
purchase. This card must then be returned to the Business Office
as soon as possible. There is also a University Company Card on
file at the BJ's Service Counter. If an employee presents an SLU
ID to the Service Counter accompanied by an authorization letter from
Mary Cosmo,
they
will
be
given
a temporary card to use when checking out.
