Veterinarian

To become a veterinarian, you must earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree after graduating from SLU. The pre-requisite courses for these programs vary, so it is important to look closely at the programs to which you plan to apply. Observation hours are critical for a successful application, so be sure to start early, spend time in different settings, and carefully document your experiences. In particular, be sure that you are getting experience in both large and small animal practices. Also, plan ahead to study for and complete the GRE exam required for your application. DVM programs are very competitive, and sometimes students pursue a master’s degree or work experience prior to successful admission to these programs.
