Hockey Notes: Perani Dies, Wilkinson Down Under, Dewey Earns Fellowship

In Requiem: Bob Perani '66, an All America goaltender for the Saints, died on a flight from Detroit to Tokyo on Sunday while en route his retirement home in Thailand. Perani earned All America honors in 1964, helping his team make the ECAC finals as a seventh seed. He shared the record for shutouts in a season (4) and saves in a period (23).

Flanagan Named Saint Captain, 2012 MVP

Kyle Flanagan was named the winner of the Dr. Stuart A. Winning Most Valuable Player Award and was announced as captain for the 2012-13 St. Lawrence University men's hockey team as the Friends of St. Lawrence Hockey conducted its annual recognition banquet at the Club on Sunday evening.

Flanagan, Martin Earn ECAC Hockey Honors

St. Lawrence University junior Kyle Flanagan was named to the third-team ECAC Hockey All Star team and freshman Chris Martin was named to the All Rookie Team as the 2012 awards were announced in Atlantic City on Thursday night.

Greg Carvel

St. Lawrence University has announced the appointment of Greg Carvel to the position of Charles W. Appleton II Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach, following the retirement of 26-year head coach Joe Marsh in March 2012.

Carvel, a 1993 graduate of St. Lawrence and a former Saint hockey captain, joined the staff in the fall of 2011 and with Mike Hurlbut coached the team during the 2011-12 season while Marsh was on a medical leave.

Carvel came to the Saints after a 15-year professional hockey coaching career that included assisting coach duties with the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, helping both teams reach the Stanley Cup finals.  He began his professional career as director of hockey operations for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League and joined Anaheim as scouting coordinator in 1999. He added video coaching duties to his title in Anaheim in 2002 and was promoted to assistant coach in 2003. He joined the Senators in 2004.

Marsh Announces Retirement; Carvel Named Head Men's Hockey Coach

March 9: St. Lawrence University Charles W. Appleton II men's ice hockey coach Joe Marsh has announced his retirement following a 26-year career as the Saints' coach, citing the time commitment for the continuation of treatment for a condition that prompted him to take a medical leave for the 2011-12 season.

O'Neill, Dartmouth End Saint Season with 4-1 Win

Senior goaltender Jody O'Neill made 30 of his 38 saves in the second and third periods to protect a Dartmouth College lead and the Big Green finished off a ECAC first round playoff sweep of St. Lawrence with a 4-1 victory at Appleton Arena Saturday night.

Dartmouth Takes Game One of Best of Three Series, 6-3

The goals came from unexpected sources as the third and fourth lines accounted for four of nine between the two teams  and freshman wing Eric Neiley snapped a 3-3 tie at 11:15 of the third period and sent Dartmouth College to a 6-3 win over St. Lawrence University in game one of a ECAC Hockey best-of-three playoff series at Appleton Arena in Canton Friday night.

Saints Grab Home Ice Spot with 3-1 Win at Dartmouth

Kyle Flanagan and George Hughes scored goals 1:47 apart late in the first period and Matt Weninger came through with a series of big third period saves as St. Lawrence University's men's hockey team clinched a home ice berth in the opening round of next week's ECAC Hockey playoffs with a 3-1 win at Dartmouth Saturday night.

Harvard Tops Saints, Home Ice on the Line Saturday

Harvard University sophomore goaltender Raphael Girard shut down St. Lawrence's offense and the Crimson picked up an insurance goal early in the third period en route a 4-1 win over the Saints in a game which sets up a big final night of the regular season for both teams.

Cornell Snaps Saint Streak in Overtime, 4-3

Senior center Sean Collins scored just 36 seconds into overtime to lift Cornell to a 4-3 ECAC Hockey victory over St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena Saturday night, keeping the Big Red in the thick of the battle for the ECAC regular season title and snapping the Saints' five game win streak.
