Saints Tabbed To Finish 6th in Polls, Flanagan, Carey Draw Pre-season All Star Status

The ECAC Hockey coaches and the media who cover the league were in consensus when it came to the pre-season poll position of St. Lawrence University's men's hockey team, but two different players, both of whom will be key to the success of the 2012-13 Saints, were named pre-season all stars.

Kyle MacDonald '16

The Boston Herald Goalie of the Year and a three-time Catholic Conference All Star while playing at Xaverian Brothers High School, Kyle MacDonald also played junior hockey for the Bay State Breakers in the EJHL. While he was limited to five games by injury last season, compiling a 2.59 goals against average and a .919 save percentage, he had a 2.63 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and went 10-7-1 in 20 games in 2010-11 for the Breakers. He led his high school team to three Super 8 appearances, the first in school history, was was captain of the Eastern Massachusetts champion baseball team as a senior. He is the son of Andy and Mary Beth MacDonald.

A teammate of Saint newcomer Alex Hagen on the Surrey Eagles, Sean McGovern scored 19 goals and had 20 assists for 39 points in 59 games last season. A graduate of Taft and the hockey  team MVP in 2011, he also played lacrosse in prep school. The son of Kevin and Elaine McGovern he intends to major in economics. His father played collegiate hockey against the Saints at Concordia in Montreal.

An outstanding defenseman for the Camrose Kodiaks in junior hockey last season, Ross scored three goals and had seven assists in 20 games. He was a high honors graduate at Advanced Technology Academy and played for the Boston Junior Bruins on an Empire JHL championship team prior to his season with Camrose. The son of Brian and Lynn McMullan, he intends to major in economics and Spanish.

Alex Hagen joins the Saints after scoring 43 points in 57 games for the Surrey (BC) Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League last season. The 2009 MVP at Choate Rosemary Hall, Alex scored 20 goals and had 23 assists in junior hockey last year. The son of former Saint player Kevin Hagen and his wife Caroline, Alex also played golf at Choate and intends to major in economics at St. Lawrence.

Men's ECAC Hockey Championship Returns To Lake Placid

Aug. 14: ECAC Hockey announced a return to Lake Placid for its championship tournament beginning with the 2014 season at a press conference in Lake Placid on Tuesday.

Saint Team, 9 Players Earn Academic Honors

June 27: Nine members of St. Lawrence University's 2011-12 men's ice hockey team were named to the ECAC Hockey All Academic team for the 2012 season and the Saint program tied for first among all 58 men's varsity programs with a perfect score of 1,000 in the NCAA Academic Progress Rates.

Kris Mayotte

Former Union College and professional hockey goaltender Kris Mayotte has been named men's ice hockey assistant coach at St. Lawrence University.

Mayotte joins Associate Head Coach Mike Hurlbut in completing the staff of new Saint head coach Greg Carvel. The new Saint assistant spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Cornell following an eight-year playing career as a goalie in both college and the professional ranks.

May 22: Former Union College and professional hockey goaltender Kris Mayotte has been named men's ice hockey assistant coach at St. Lawrence University.

Carvel Looks Forward To 1st Season as Head Coach

An association which began in his early teens has turned into the opportunity to be one of only 58 NCAA Division I head coaches in the sport of college hockey for former St. Lawrence captain Greg Carvel. And Carvel, who entered the college coaching ranks just last August after a 15-year career coaching professional hockey, has a great vision of where he wants to take his program.
