Weninger Posts Shutout, Saints Win First, 2-0

Freshman wing Patrick Doherty scored his third goal of the season 7:01 into the first period and that was all sophomore goaltender Matt Weninger needed as he came through with a 18-save shutout, helping St. Lawrence University to a 2-0 ECAC Hockey victory over Rensselaer at Appleton Arena in Canton Saturday night.

Union Slips Past Saints 2-0

Junior forwards Wayne Simpson and Jeremy Welsh each scored power play goals and sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season as nationally ranked Union edged St. Lawrence University 2-0 in the ECAC Hockey opener for both teams at Appleton Arena  in Canton Friday night.

St. Lawrence University freshman forward Patrick Doherty has been named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals in a 6-5 loss to the Rochester Institute of Technology.

RIT Rallies To Deny Saints 1st Win, 6-5 in OT

 RIT scored an extra attacker goal to tie the game with nine seconds to go in regulation and then won it with a goal just 14 seconds into overtime, denying St. Lawrence University a chance for its first win of the 2011-12 hockey season with a 6-5 win before a sellout crowd of 10,556 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester Saturday night.

A game that started well for St. Lawrence University's men's hockey team did not end well as the University of Michigan shrugged off a 1-0 Saint lead with three goals in a span of 3:16 of the third period and went on to a 10-3 win over the Saints at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor Thursday night.

Penalties proved costly for the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team as the Saints gave Ferris State eight power play opportunities and cut two of their own short with penalties while a man down as Ferris turned back the Saints 4-2 in the official NCAA season opener for both teams at Appleton Arena Friday night.

Marsh To Take Medical Leave from Coaching Position

St. Lawrence University men's ice hockey head coach Joe Marsh has announced his intention to take an indefinite medical leave from his coaching position effective immediately. "I think it is best for the team that I step aside until this medical problem is taken care of," said Marsh.
