Carey's OT Goal Lifts Saints To 4-3 Win at Yale

Sophomore wing Greg Carey scored on a power-play one-timer 2:25 into overtime to lift St. Lawrence University to a 4-3 ECAC Hockey victory over Yale in New Haven Friday night, snapping a six-game Saint winless streak and giving SLU its first  league win since November 19.

Carey, who had two goals in the 3-3 tie with Yale in Canton in January, did it again Friday and now has six goals and nine points in seven games against the Elis. His overtime winner, his first game winner of the season, gave the Saints two points out of a game in which they worked hard to build a lead only to see Yale come back to tie it in the third.

"Getting the win is huge," said Saint associate head coach Mike Hurlbut. "We played our best game in quite some time and coming away with less than two points would have been disappointing. This is one we can build on and get a roll going at the right time of the year.

Carey scored the game winner after Yale's Antoine Laganiere was called for a board at 2:09 of the overtime. Kyle Flanagan won the faceoff in the Yale zone, the puck went back to George Hughes at the point and Hughes relayed it back to Flanagan, who hit Carey at the bottom of the faceoff circle and Carey's one-timer whistled past Yale goalie Nic Maricic to end it.

SLU improves to 9-15-3 overall and 5-9-1 in league play and snapped a bunch of streaks with the win, including a 0-7-1 mark in league play since their 4-3 win over Harvard in November. Yale is now 9-11-2, 6-8-1 in league play

Clarkson Rallies To Overtake Saints 4-3

Goaltender Matt Weninger was brilliant with a 46-save night and the Saints managed to score three goals on Clarkson goalie Paul Karpowich for the third time this season, but Clarkson rallied from a 3-2 deficit with a pair of third period goals to hand the Saints a 4-3 loss at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.
