Trio to Captain Saints in 2010, Brisson Named Offensive Coordinator

July 13: St. Lawrence University head football coach Mark Raymond announced on Tuesday that the senior trio of Nate Howard, Tim Robinson and Ben Cryts will serve as captains for the upcoming 2010 season.  Also, Coach Raymond named Scott Brisson, formerly an assistant coach at Lehigh University, as the offensive coordinator for the Scarlet and Brown.

Mark Raymond

Mark Raymond M' 95, the former defensive coordinator at Ithaca College, was named the 22nd head coach of the St. Lawrence University football program in the spring of 2010.  He enters the 2013 season with a career mark of 8-22.

In his first season with the Scarlet and Brown, Raymond guided St. Lawrence to the program's first Liberty League Championship thanks to a 5-1 record in conference.  With a win over WPI in the 2010 season finale, the Saints punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1982.  Raymond and his staff were named the Liberty League's Coaching Staff of the Year for their efforts.

Raymond, who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Buffalo in 1993, worked for three years at St. Lawrence as a graduate assistant coach with the football team. In his prior tenure in Canton, NY, Raymond coached linebackers, defensive ends and wide receivers while building a solid recruiting foundation throughout the northeast as Recruiting Coordinator for St. Lawrence.

Mark Raymond Named Head Coach for Saints Football Program

May 18: St. Lawrence University Director of Athletics Margie Strait announced on Tuesday that Mark Raymond M' 95, the former defensive coordinator at Ithaca College, will take the reins as the 22nd head coach of the Saints' football program.

Phelps Accepts Head Coaching Job at Salisbury Prep

Apr. 13: St. Lawrence University head football coach Chris Phelps, who has been on the Saints' sideline since the 2001 season, has accepted the head coach position at Salisbury Prep School in Salisbury, CT.  In his nine seasons, Phelps increased the number of participants in the program and recruited some outstanding student-athletes.

Bryant a First Team All-America, Impressive in Senior Games

Jan. 4: St. Lawrence University senior Gerard Bryant's career in a Saints uniform may have come to an end in November, but he continued to dazzle scouts and fans at a pair of Senior games over the last month.  Bryant has also been named a 2009 First Team All-America for the second consecutive year by D3Football.com amongst numerous other honors.

Nov. 17: St. Lawrence University senior co-captain Gerard Bryant was named the 2009 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday by the conference.  Bryant, a 2008 First Team All-America, was joined by seven other Saints in earning All-Conference honors as well.

Hackett Breaks University TD Record, Saints Drop WPI 24-21

Nov. 14: The St. Lawrence University football team finished the 2009 season in style on Saturday, as the Saints used a dynamic running attack that totaled 261 yards and three touchdowns to hold off WPI 24-21 in Worcester, MA.  Senior co-captain Connor Hackett put the finishing touches on a record-breaking career as well, scoring his 27th career touchdown to break the University's record that had stood since 1978.

Saints Unable to Rally, Fall 20-7 to Rochester on “Senior Day”

Nov. 7: The St. Lawrence University football team celebrated "Senior Day" on Saturday afternoon at Leckonby Stadium, as the 30 members of the Class of 2010 played their final home game against the University of Rochester.  Though the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 20-0 lead at halftime, the Saints had chances in the second half to crawl back into the game.  However, untimely turnovers and penalties would end their comeback chances as Rochester hung on for a 20-7 victory.

Saints Suffer 21-7 Loss to Susquehanna

Oct. 31: The St. Lawrence University football team dropped another tight game on Saturday, as the Crusaders of Susquehanna University held on for a 21-7 victory in a driving rain storm in Canton, NY.  The Scarlet and Brown had several chances to creep back into the game in the fourth quarter, but turnovers ended their hopes of knocking off the second place team in the Liberty League.

Saints Fall to RPI in Defensive Battle, 10-7

Oct. 24: The St. Lawrence University football team battled both the elements and a gritty Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team on Saturday in Troy, NY.  In heavy rain, the two teams used outstanding defensive efforts, with RPI able to hang on to a narrow 10-7 Liberty League victory at the East Campus Stadium.
