3: The St. Lawrence University Athletic
Department has announced that Maggie Fellows '13 and Jacob Fredericks '13 are
the recipients of the Hoffmann Outstanding First-Year Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Fellows,
a sophomore on the women's crew team, is the women's recipient for 2010. The Warwick, MA native posted a 3.97 grade
point average in her first year at St. Lawrence. Rowing five-seat in the women's Varsity
eight, Maggie helped power the crew to its third consecutive Liberty League
Championship in the spring of 2010. The
rookie also helped her team earn a silver medal at the New York State
Collegiate Championships and a bid to the NCAA Championships.
Fellows,
who posted the fastest 2k erg time of the women in that crew, currently holds
the school record for the 6k distance.
Maggie's efforts landed her an invitation to the U.S. Rowing U-23 Team
selection camp this past November.
Fredericks earned the men's scholar-athlete award thanks to a 3.81 grade point
average in his first year at St. Lawrence.
Jacob contributed at the NYSCTC Indoor Track and Field Championships, as
he was sixth in the triple jump, helping the Saints to second place in the team
standings.
Fredericks
went on to produce points in three events at the Liberty League Outdoor
Championships, including a second place finish in the triple jump. He ranked first on the team in the 400m
hurdles and second in the 55m hurdles, 60m hurdles and triple jump throughout
the 2009-10 season.
