Oct. 8: The
St. Lawrence University Saints split on the first day of the Clarkson
invitational, sweeping the Plattsburgh State Cardinals 3-0 (25-15, 25-15,
25-15) before falling to Elizabethtown 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 25-14, 15-25, 15-9)
on the night cap.
The Saints move to 13-5 on season.
Sparking the Saints offense against the Cardinals was
junior Liz Grogan, accumulating 10 kills against just a single error in 23
swings. Classmate Marta Johan followed with
8 kills, while junior co-captain Nyasha Miller accumulated 15 digs and 8 kills. Senior co-captain Abby Rose assisted on 23
kills and recorded six digs, while Lauren Drozynski had three service
aces.
The Saints recorded a .365 hitting percentage for
the match against Plattsburgh (37-6-85).
With back and forth blowout sets in the match against Elizabethtown, neither team was able to take control of the match and establish a steady flow. In the final set of the match, Elizabethtown jumped out to a quick four-point advantage over the Saints and was able to maintain that edge for the rest of the match to take the victory.
Leading the Saints in the night cap against
Elizabethtown was Grogan, who recorded 15 more kills, followed by Miller and
Drozynski with 13 and nine, respectively.
Rose accumulated 43 assists while junior defensive specialist Katherine Pierce
had 16 digs. First-year student Katie
Prue recorded six service aces for the Saints.
