Saints Rout Pine Manor, 73-34

Nov. 23: The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated Pine Manor College 73-34 in the consolation game of the second annual Amherst College Invitational Tournament Sunday afternoon in Amherst, MA.

The Saints split the weekend and improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Gators fall to 0-2.

Senior Jenna Krzemien (Springville, NY/Springville) continued to be one of the Saints' toughest offensive weapons in the opening weekend of their 2008-09 campaign, as she had a game high 13 points, including a nine point first half, nine rebounds and seven steals to earn All-Tournament honors.

Also scoring in the double digits included junior Brittany Parham (Fort Drum, NY/Indian River) and rookie Elizabeth Dwyer (Beverly, MA/Beverly), who posted 10 and 11 points, respectively. First years Iris Santoni (Florence, MA/Northampton) and Nyasha Miller (Mt. Kisco, NY/Taft School) also posted impressive numbers, as Santoni tallied a team high 5 assists and Miller grabbed seven boards.

The Scarlet and Brown took an early lead after Parham scored six points in the opening six minutes to help the Saints to a 14-4 lead with 14:08 to play in the game. Midway through the half, St. Lawrence earned a double digit lead after sophomore Abby Stanton (Avon, NY/Avon Central) made a pair of free throws to give the Saints a 19-8 edge. Pine Manor responded with a three from the left wing by Angeline Capre, keeping the game at a ten point margin.

Lehman Edges Saints in Double Overtime Thriller, 69-64

Nov. 22: After 50 minutes of battle, the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team fell to Lehman College in the second annual Amherst College Invitational 69-64 in double overtime Saturday night in Amherst, MA.

The Saints fell 0-1 in their 2008-09 campaign, while the Lightning earned their third straight win heading into the championship game tomorrow afternoon where they will face Amherst College, the winner of the other contest. St. Lawrence will play Pine Manor Sunday afternoon for third place in the tournament.

The upperclassmen guided St. Lawrence as senior Jenna Krzemien (Springville, NY/Springville) tallied a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, while classmate and captain Lauren Sischo (Rodman, NY/South Jefferson) put up 15 points, 12 of those coming from behind the arc. Senior Katie Palmer (Bourne, MA/Falmouth) and junior Brittany Parham (Fort Drum, NY/Indian River) also scored in the double digits as Palmer had 11 points and Parham had ten.

The beginning of the game started slow for both teams, as Lehman was the only team to score in the opening six and a half minutes. But the Saints played strong, using an 11 point, six rebound half from Palmer to outscore the Lightning 28-14 in the remaining minutes of the period to give the Scarlet and Brown a three-possession lead and a 28-19 advantage heading into halftime. Both teams shot 35-percent from the floor in the first, with neither team taking a shot from behind the arc.

Saints Fall To Cortland In NCAA First Round, 71-55

The St. Lawrence University women’s basketball team suffered a 71-55 loss to Cortland State on Friday evening in the first round of the 2009 Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament, hosted by the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa.

Saints Hold Off RPI To Advance To Conference Championship, 54-49

The St. Lawrence University women’s basketball team survived a
second-half surge on the part Rensselaer Friday evening as the Saints
defeated the Red Hawks 54-49 in Schenectady, NY, to advance to the
Liberty League Championship contest, set for Saturday afternoon at
Union College.

Seniors Pace Saints To 79-72 OT Win Over RPI On ‘Senior Day’

The St. Lawrence University women’s basketball senior class
combined for 51 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists on ‘Senior Day’ to
help guide the Saints to a 79-72 overtime victory over visiting
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Burkman Gymnasium Saturday
afternoon.

The Saints improve to 17-7
and a 10-4 conference mark to close out the regular season, while
Rensselaer falls to 18-6 and 10-4 against Liberty League opponents.

Saints' 70-45 Win Over Vassar Sends Squad To Liberty League Tournament

Ten members of the St. Lawrence University women’s basketball team
scored points en route to defeating Liberty League opponent Vassar
College 70-45 in Burkman Gymnasium Friday night, clinching a spot in
the conference tournament, scheduled to begin next weekend.

The Saints improve to a 16-7 overall mark and 9-4 against Liberty
League opponents, while Vassar remains winless in conference action
falling to 3-21 on the season and 0-13 in the League.

Saints End Losing Skid With 63-56 Victory Against Hamilton

After a full 40-minute battle, the St. Lawrence University women’s
basketball team used a scoring run late in the contest to pull away
from Liberty League opponent Hamilton College Saturday afternoon as the
Saints defeated the Continentals 63-56 in Scott Field House in Clinton,
NY.

The Scarlet and Brown turned
around their three-game losing streak to improve to a 15-7 mark and 8-4
in the conference, while Hamilton falls to 13-8 and 6-5 in League
action.

William Smith Edges Saints In Final Moments, 64-62

The St. Lawrence University women’s basketball team overcame a
12-point deficit towards the end of the first half and earned as much
as a five-point lead in the second before William Smith College climbed
back and edged the Saints 64-62 in Liberty League action Friday night
in Geneva, NY.

Skidmore Stuns Saints, 69-58

The Skidmore Thoroughbreds used 13 three-point buckets to overcome
an early deficit and defeat the St. Lawrence University women’s
basketball 69-59 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon in Burkman
Gym.

Skidmore improves to 8-13 overall with the win
and 5-5 in the conference while the Saints suffer their second straight
loss and fall to 14-6 in the season and a 7-3 record in the Liberty
League. The Saints remain in second place in conference standings,
while Skidmore is now in fifth place.

Dutchwomen Edge Saints 51-47 In Liberty League Showdown

Despite a tough defense on the part of the St. Lawrence University
women's basketball team, the Union Dutchwomen concentrated their
efforts in making shots in the paint as they made a second half
comeback to edge the Saints, 51-47, Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium.
