Saints Advance to NCAA Second Round with Double Overtime Win Over Warriors

Nov. 10:  St. Lawrence University sophomore Mark Provost scored the game-winning goal 1:11 into the second overtime to cap the #13 Saints 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Eastern Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  St. Lawrence improved to 14-2-3 with the win and will square off with host Williams College (14-1-3) in a second round game at 1:30pm in Williamstown, MA.   

Saints Draw Warriors in NCAA First Round

Nov. 5:  The St. Lawrence University men's soccer team was given an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Tournament and will take on the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday, November 10 in the first round in Williamstown, MA.  The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm at Cole Field on Williams College campus.

Nine Saints Earn All-Conference Honors

Nov. 2:  Nine members of the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team earned All-Conference honors for the 2012 season, as announced by the Liberty League on Thursday afternoon.  Leading the way for the Saints as First Team Selections were seniors Sam DeMello, Alex Laird and Brian Gilloran, and junior Andrew Bednarsky. 

RPI Edges St. Lawrence on PKs in Liberty League Semifinal

Nov. 1: Freshman Vince Bennett scored on the fifth and final penalty kick to help Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) advance to the Liberty League championship game after tying No. 18 St. Lawrence University, 2-2, on Thursday night.

Saints Down Golden Knights on “Senior Day”, 5-0

Oct. 27:  Five different players scored as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team, ranked #18 nationally, defeated Clarkson University by the score of 5-0 at Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday.  The Saints, who improve to 13-2-2 on the season, clinched a spot in the Liberty League Tournament with the victory and will be the #3 seed with a 5-2-1 conference record.  Meanwhile, the Golden Knights' season comes to an end as they finish with a 2-12-3 overall record. 

#18 Saints, Cardinals Play to 0-0 Tie

Oct. 24: The nationally-ranked #18 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team played Plattsburgh State to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference game at the Field House Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.

Laird, #17 Saints Rally to Beat Tigers 3-2

Oct. 20: Senior co-captain Alex Laird scored the game-winning goal with :21 left to lift the #17 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over RIT on Saturday afternoon. RIT had a 2-0 lead with 6:45 to play in regulation, but the Saints scored three unanswered goals in that span to earn the win.

Matt McCluskey

Matt McCluskey, the coordinator of Academic Support, will serve as the men's soccer team's Faculty/Staff Mentor for the 2012-13 season.

An alumnus of St. Lawrence, McCluskey returned to his alma mater in 200. He also teaches in the First-Year Program and works in the Higher Education Opportunity Program. Within these positions Matt has been able to further long-time interests in reading and writing pedagogies, education, and the social sciences.

After graduating from SLU, he went to work at the Kildonan School, an institution that specializes in teaching gifted students with learning disabilities. He has since worked with students with dyslexia and ADHD in Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and New York. He also taught history and coached soccer at the Doane Stuart School, an ecumenical college prep school in Albany, New York. Matt earned a master's degree in political science at Duke University in 2001 and subsequently spent two years working in Maryland state politics. Related to these interests, he has taught such courses as America's Suburban Landscape, Reading Political Philosophy, and Dirt. He is a representative on the First Year Program Council, the faculty/staff mentor for the men's soccer team, and a contributor on education issues for the Huffington Post.

Dutchmen Edge #7 Saints, 1-0

Oct. 13:   Sebastiaan Jansen's header stood as the lone goal as Union College defeated #7 St. Lawrence University by the score of 1-0 in a Liberty League match in Schenectady, NY on Saturday. 

Saints, Engineers Play to 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

Oct. 12:  The nationally-ranked #7 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Liberty League opponent Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday afternoon in Troy, NY.  The Saints move to 11-1-1 overall with a 3-1-1 mark in the league, while RPI is now 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.  Both teams remain tied in the standings.
