The St. Lawrence University co-ed basketball camp is designed to provide younger basketball athletes with an opportunity to learn, share and prepare for their upcoming season. A camp application is available for download at the bottom of this page.

The co-ed basketball camp features:

* Individual Improvement- Serious players will be able to receive one-on-one instruction from camp staff. Individual programs can be developed to allow the elite player to improve their game.
* Shooting with "The Gun"- This is a practice machine which fires up to 30 passes per minute, moving to ten spots around the perimeter. The netting forces the development of an increased shooting arc.
* Supervised scrimmage-Campers can apply skills they learn in one-on one, two-on-two, three-on-three or five-on five full court play.
* Individual videotape shooting analysis- Each camper will have his or her jump shot videotaped, critiqued and corrected.
* Recreation- Campers will have access to the swimming pool and games room.

Campus Information

Meals- All meals will be prepared and served by the University dining services and include an All-you-can-eat buffet. Campers will also be able to purchase items at the concession stand.

Accommodations- All lodging will be in a University dormitory and there will be 24 hour supervision by camp staff and University security.

Cost - $330 per player overnight / $230 per team commuter

Facilities

Basketball Courts- Climate controlled Newell Field House has four full-sized courts and eight outdoor courts are available around the athletic complex. There are five full sized outdoor courts and campers will have access to the Burkman Gymnasium, home of the Saints men's and women's basketball teams.

Swimming pool- An indoor swimming pool is available to all campers. Certified lifeguards are on site at all times.

Weight Training Room- St. Lawrence has a brand new state-of-the-art weight training facility that is available to all campers. Elite athletes are sure to take advantage of the expertise of the Saints strength and conditioning coach to establish a personalized program.

Games Room- Includes a variety of arcade games as well as pool tables. The game room also has many tables to allow the campers to enjoy a snack form the concession and socialize with other campers.


Meet the Coaches: Chris Downs, Head Men's Basketball Coach at St. Lawrence University

Coach Downs has taken St. Lawrence to 11 post season appearances, including one NCAA Elite Eight, one NCAA Sweet 16, one NCAA Second Round, two ECAC semifinals, two ECAC finals, one ECAC championship and multiple Liberty League Tournaments. Downs has been named NABC East Region, New York State and Liberty League Coach of the Year.

The Liberty League and Northeast Regional Coach of the Year as a rookie head coach in 1997-98, he led his Saints to the best season in SLU history with a 24-2 overall record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, Downs guided St. Lawrence to the 2009 NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the "Sweet 16."

A former Athlete of the Year, Downs received a bachelor's in elementary education from Oneonta State. Coach Downs has also worked at Division II LeMoyne College and Potsdam State.

Dan Roiger, Head Women's Basketball Coach at St. Lawrence University

Dan Roiger was named the head women's basketball coach at St. Lawrence University in the summer of 2009 after serving as the head women's basketball coach at Northland (WI) College for five years. Roiger was a two-time winner of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award (2007, 2009).

In his first year at St. Lawrence, Roiger guided the Saints to an 18-7 record and a second place Liberty League finish.  Currently, his young team is in contention for first place in the conference.  Prior to St. Lawrence, Roiger led his Northland team to the conference regular season and tournament championships in 2008-09 and the 19 wins his team registered were the third most in program history. He had a 32-10 conference record in his last three seasons there and the team was first or second in each of those three seasons. In addition to on-court success, his teams have been outstanding in the classroom, earning a Top 25 Academic Award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association in 2007-08.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, he earned his master's degree at Madison and also earned a BA in education from Mankato State University. A native of Wausau, WI, he also served as an assistant athletic director at Northland.
