Six Saints Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

Nov. 22: Six St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The men's basketball team went 2-1 to open the 2011-12 season, knocking off 18th-ranked Oswego State on Tuesday, then posting a runner-up finish at the Keene State Classic on the weekend. Senior Ralph Temgoua earned "Performer of the Week" as he averaged 17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and also dished out 13 assists. The Paris, France native earned a spot on the KSC all-tournament team.
The men's and women's cross country teams each posted 8th place finishes overall in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Senior John Johnston earned "Performer of the Week" as he finished in third place overall with a time of 24:06. The Rockwood, Ontario native is an All-American for the second consecutive. Classmate and co-captain Jenna Hulton also earned "Performer of the week" as she finished 8th place overall in the women's race with a time of 21:42, earning All-American status for the second time in her career.
First-year students Scott Smolensky and Megan Hulton each earned "Rookie of the Week" as they were the first Liberty League rookies to cross the finish line. Smolensky finished the NCAA Championship race in 26:54.25 and was the sixth Saint runner to cross the line. Hulton was the women's team's fourth runner to cross the finish line with a time of 22:30.
The men's squash team posted a runner-up finish at the Liberty League Championships over the weekend. First-year student Peter Lynn earned "Rookie of the Week" as he went 4-0, winning at three different spots in the lineup. The Buffalo, NY native swept all four matches, at nine vs. Rochester and Hobart, at one vs. Bard and at two vs. Vassar.
