Six Saints Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

Sept. 19:  Six St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.

The St. Lawrence University men's cross country team, ranked third in the latest national poll, posted an impressive victory at the 2011 Saratoga Invitational on Saturday.   Senior John Johnston, who earned "Co-Performer of the Week" honors, led the Saints to victory, winning the race with a time of 25:39.  First-year student Scott Smolensky finished in fourth place with a time of 26:10 and earned "Rookie of the week" honors.

Senior Jenna Hulton led the nationally-ranked No. 19 women's cross country team to a Saratoga Invitational victory of its own as she calimed the individual title with a time of 17:52.  The East Aurora, NY native earned "Co-Performer of the Week" honors for her efforts.  Earning "Rookie of the Week" honors was Megan Hulton, who impressed with a third place individual finish in 18:17.     

The men's soccer team, ranked fourth nationally, won its fifth straight game with a 1-0 victory over Gordan College.  First-year student Mark Provost set up the game-winning goal and helped limit the Scots to just three total shot attempts for the game.  He earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" honors for his efforts. 

Senior back Katherine Polido anchored a Saints defense which posted back-to-back shutouts of Nazareth and Elmira and allowed only 16 shot attempts in the two games. She also scored the game-winning goal against Nazareth on a corner kick and set up the game winner against Elmira with another corner kick.  She earned "Defensive Performer of the Week" honors.
