Eight Saints Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

Sept. 12: Eight St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The men's and women's cross country teams took part in the annual North Country Five Meet where individuals from St. Lawrence, SUNY Canton, Clarkson, Potsdam State and Paul Smith's College compete. Senior Steve Kiplagat earned "Co-Performer of the Week" as he won the event with a time of 16:54. First-year student Trevor Bibb, who finished 11 seconds behind Kiplagat, earned "Rookie of the Week" honors. First-year student Anne Martino won the event on the women's side with a time of 20:24 and earned "Rookie of the Week" honors.
The football team traveled to Northfield, VT on Saturday where they defeated Norwich University by the score of 29-14. Senior co-captain Ethan Sutton, who led the Saints with 10 catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns, earned "Co-Offensive Performer of the Week" honors for his efforts. Classmate and fellow co-captain Trevor Saunders led the defense with 13 tackles and a forced fumble, and earned "Defensive Performer of the Week" honors.
On the golf course, the Saints competed against 14 other teams in the annual St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational. Senior Adrian Bouthot, who was 20th in the field with rounds of 78 and 75 (153 total), was the top finisher for the Saints and earned "Performer of the Week" honors.
The nationally ranked No. 5 men's soccer team shocked Geneseo State on Saturday as the Saints rallies from a 2-0 deficit past the Blue Knights to win 3-2. Junior Sam DeMello, who scored three unanswered goals, including the game-winner off a set play with 2:11 remaining, earned "Co-Offensive Performer of the Week" honors.
The women's tennis participated in the Mary Hosking Invitational at William Smith College on Saturday and Sunday. First-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt, who advanced to the "A" Flight singles semifinals and went 4-0 on her way to the "A" Flight doubles championship, earned "Rookie of the Week" honors for her efforts in her collegiate debut with the Saints.
