Four Saints Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

Sept. 6: Four St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The men's cross country team, ranked third in the national pre-season poll, won the 2011 "Cardinal Classic" on Saturday afternoon in Plattsburgh, NY. Senior John Johnston earned "Co-Performer of the week" honors as he won his second collegiate race, leading the Saints to victory with a time of 15:37.
On the women's side, the nationally-ranked No. 20 Saints came in second to host No. 13 Plattsburgh State. First-year student Megan Hulton earned "Rookie of the week" honors as she made her collegiate debut, recording a third place finish with a time of 19:01.
The St. Lawrence football team battled Utica College on Saturday afternoon, falling by the score of 48-35 in Canton, NY. First-year wide receiver Colby Johnson was recognized as "Rookie of the week" as he made four receptions in his first collegiate start. The North Attleboro, Mass. native had a total of 68 yards receiving, including a 40-yard catch.
On the soccer field, the men's team earned its eighth Lotto Tournament title in nine years as it opened the season 2-0 last weekend. Junior midfielder Sam DeMello earned "Co-offensive performer of the week" honors as he was named the MVP of the tournament. The Easthampton, MA native scored the winning goal and assisted on another in a 3-2 win over Oneonta State and set up the game winner in a 1-0 win over Eastern Connecticut.
