Six Saints and a Crew Earn Weekly Honors

April 12:  Six St. Lawrence University student-athletes and a crew were honored by the Liberty League for their performances during the last week. 

Earning "Co-Boat of the Week" was the women's crew second varsity eight, which defeated Ithaca on Saturday on the Cayuga inlet.  The Saints negotiated the 2000 meter course in 7:06.70, beating out the Bombers who came in seconds behind at 7:08.80. The eight was coxed by Kelly Greenwood '13 and stroked by Alie Mihuta '14. Amanda Brewer '12, Alyssa Goley '14, Kait Murphy '14, Sally Dankner '13, Liz Weber '12, Catie LePage '11, and Anna Lavanger '14 also powered the eight.

The baseball team played a four-game series with Liberty League rival University of Rochester where the teams split.  Senior Chris Cook pitched a four hitter for a seven inning shutout win over the Yellowjackets, 5-0, to start the weekend series.  The Sunderland, MA native struck out five and walked one.

First-year student Jasper Heaton earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as he shot his collegiate low with a two-over 74 on Saturday.  The Barton, VT native was second overall in the field and helped lead St. Lawrence to the team title at the Utica College Spring Invitational. 

On the lacrosse field, junior midfielder Matt Pope earned "Co-Offensive Performer of the Week" as he had a five-goal week for St. Lawrence.  The Newfields, NH native scored three goals in an 8-7 win over Plattsburgh State. Pope then followed with two goals against Union College.

Senior midfielder Kelsey Redpath earned "Co-Defensive Performer of the Week" on the women's side as she was outstanding defensively against two of the top offensive players in the Liberty League. Her overall defensive play anchored the Saints to an 8-7 win over Union in which she had a ground ball and two caused turnovers. The Norwich, VT native then followed with five groundballs, an assist and a caused turnover against Skidmore.

Senior track and field standout Wendy Pavlus improved her own St. Lawrence University record in the steeplechase on the weekend and earned "Co-track Performer of the Week".  The Tupper Lake, NY native also met NCAA automatic qualifying in the event with a win in 10:31.28 as the Saints opened the spring season at the Rochester Alumni Invitational.

First-year student Victoria Bean earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as she finished second in the triple jump with a 10.81 meter series at the Rochester Alumni Invitational and ran on the Saints' 2nd place 4x100 meter relay team.
