Four Saints and a Crew Earn Weekly Honors

March 28: Four St. Lawrence University student-athletes and a crew were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the week.
Earning "Boat of the week" honors was the men's crew varsity 8+, which defeated RIT for the first time in program history. Facing a strong head current last Friday in Rochester, the 8+ negotiated the 1800m course in a time of 7:40.07 while RIT finished in 7:44.75. Sophomore Audrey Strasenburgh coxed, while senior Dave MacClaren stroked. Also racing for the Saints were seniors Cam West and Nick Blum, juniors Jon Williams and Brent Underwood, sophomore Francis Stripp, and first-years Andrew Freeman and Ethan Buhl.
The men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Ithaca, NY to take on the Bombers in a dual match-up. Sophomore Shannon Murphy earned "Co-Performer of the week" as she was the only double winner in the Saints' 5-4 victory. The Hopkinton, MA native defeated Ithaca's Kelsey Harness in the no. 4 spot, and teamed up with classmate Liz Geer in second doubles, earning 8-5 victory. The women's team improved to 5-0 with the win.
On the men's side, sophomore Michael Hayden earned "Co-Performer of the week" as he was a double winner in the Saints' loss to Ithaca 5-4. The Greenwich, CT native defeated Ithaca's Jimmy Newton at second singles, and then teamed up with teammate Tony Wilkey at first doubles to knock off Newton and Josh Rifkin, the third ranked doubles team in the Northeast Region and the 14th in the National Rankings.
On the lacrosse field, sophomore Jeff Goeke earned "Co-Defensive performer of the week" as he turned in a pair of fantastic outings in net for St. Lawrence against Colby and Nazareth. The Princeton, NJ native made 17 saves in an 8-4 win over the Mules, then followed with 18 stops against the Golden Flyers. He finished the week with a .729 save percentage.
Senior Anna Marchand earned "Co-Defensive performer of the week" on the women's side as she made eight saves in a win over Potsdam State and followed with a solid 13-save outing against Brockport State, for a .618 save percentage on the week.
