Eight Saints Earn Weekly Conference Honors

Dec. 14:  Eight St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.

The women's basketball team traveled to Weston, MA to take part in the Park Lodge tournament hosted by Regis College.  Junior co-captain Casey Capello earned "Performer of the Week" as she helped the Saints to a 2-0 weekend and the tournament title. The Hanover, MA native recorded 12 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 72-59 win over Framingham College on Saturday. She capped the weekend with 16 points, two rebounds and a steal as the Saints defeated host Regis College 67-60 in the championship game on Sunday.

First-year student Kelly Legg earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as she recorded 22 points, four rebounds, a block and two steals against Framingham and then scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, three blocks and a steal in the championship game against Regis College. 

The men's and women's indoor track and field teams hosted the Saint Holiday Race this past weekend and six members were honored.  On the men's side, junior Justin Spalik earned "Track Performer of the Week" as he won the 55 hurdles in a time of 7.98 (currently ranked sixth in Division III) and ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay. 

Sophomore A.J. Blaisdell earned "Field Performer of the Week" as he won the weight throw with a personal record of 14.28 meters. It was his second consecutive win in the event.  

First-year student Brendan Courneene earned "Rookie of the Week" as he finished sixth in the mile in 4:31.73 and ran the 1200 meter leg of the winning DMR which posted a time of 11:05.44, the fifth fastest in Division III thus far this season.

On the women's side, senior Megan Derby earned "Track Performer of the Week" as she won the 3000 meters in 10:36.16 to lead a St. Lawrence sweep of the event. 

First-year student Caitlin Boreyko earned "Field Performer of the Week" as she won the pole vault with a 2.90 meter vault and classmate Hannah Kinsey earned "Rookie of the Week" as she finished second in the 200 in 27.21 seconds, was sixth in 7.77 in the 55 and ran the anchor leg on the 4x200.
