Ten Saints Earn Weekly Honors

Dec. 7:  Ten St. Lawrence University student-athletes and a crew boat were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week. 

The women's basketball team improved to 5-1, posting two wins on its home court this week.  Junior co-captain Casey Capello earned "Performer of the Week" honors as she averaged 20.3 points per game, including a career-high 29 point performance against Ithaca College, leading the Saints to a 2-1 week.  The Hanover, MA native recorded 16 points and six rebounds in a 72-58 win over Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, and then netted her career and game-high 29 points with four steals on Friday in an 82-80 loss to Ithaca. She capped the weekend with 16 points as the Saints defeated the Elmira College Soaring Eagles 79-66 on Saturday.

Earning "Co-Rookie of the Week" was first-year student Kelly Legg who averaged 17.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per contest on the week.  The Fairport, NY native  recorded 20 points and six rebounds against Plattsburgh State on Tuesday and then scored 11 points with a block and two steals against Ithaca on Friday. She closed out the weekend with a double-double performance, scoring 20 points while adding 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the victory over Elmira on Saturday.

The men's squash team went 2-1 at the Hamilton round robin as sophomore Russell Woeltz earned "Co-Performer of the Week".  The Boston, MA native went 3-0 on the weekend and was the lone Saint winner in an 8-1 loss to Franklin and Marshall. 

First-year student Vir Seth earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as he won in straight games in a 9-0 win over Hamilton and in three straight in an 8-1 win over Navy.  His lone loss was a 3-0 decision against F&M with games two and three decided by two points each. 

The indoor track and field season got underway as the men's and women's teams won the Can/Am Challenge.  Junior Justin Spalik earned "Track Performer of the Week" as he won the 60 hurdles in 8.80 seconds and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team which won in 3:34.10.  He also finished fourth in the long jump.   

Junior Sean Scott earned "Co-Field Performer of the Week" as he won the long jump with a 6.40 meter jump and was second in the triple jump with a 13.17 meter series. 

First-year student Tom Lehmann earned "Rookie of the Week" as he won the triple jump in his first collegiate meet with a 13.39 meter series, and was fifth in the long jump at 6.15 meters.  He also took eighth in the shot put and 13th in the 60 meter dash in the Can/Am Challenge. 

On the women's side, sophomore Jacquelynn Lemme earned "Performer of the Week" honors as she won the 1000 meters in 3:18.28. 

Senior Lisa Baron earned "Co-Field Performer of the Week" as she won the shot put with an 11.63 meter throw, while also winning the weight throw with an 11.35 meter throw. 

First-year student Hannah Kinsey earned "Rookie of the Week" as she finished third in the 60 meters, fifth in the 300 meters and anchord the 4x200 relay for the Saints in their win in the Can/Am Challenge.
