St. Lawrence 17th in Opening Directors’ Cup Standings
Nov. 24: St. Lawrence University is ranked 17th overall in the first set of the Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
With the first four NCAA Championships now finished including men's and women's cross country, field hockey and volleyball, the Saints have earned 113.0 points. That total, which comes from only cross country points, has St. Lawrence tied with Williams College and only three points behind Amherst.
Having landed in 17th position thus far, St. Lawrence is ranked ahead of other outstanding athletic programs including Dickinson, Stevens Point (WI), Nebraska Wesleyan, Bowdoin and Christopher Newport. Skidmore College is the next Liberty League team in the Directors' Cup standings in 34th position followed by Clarkson University in a tie for 54th.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports - seven women's and seven men's.
The next Division III standings will be released Thursday, December 9.
