Nov. 16:  Eight St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.

Three cross country runners earned honors as both the men's and women's team earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championship race next weekend.  Junior Steve Kiplagat earned "Performer of the Week" as he finished in fifth place overall on Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Atlantic Regional in Oneonta, NY. The Iten, Kenya native ran the 8k course in 24:53.

On the women's side, senior Wendy Pavlus earned "Performer of the Week" as she defended her Atlantic Regional title with an impressive performance on Saturday, running the 6k course in 21:11, winning by 42 seconds and leading St. Lawrence to the program's second consecutive regional championship.

First-year Amanda Moreland earned "Rookie of the Week" as she finished in 17th place at the 2010 Atlantic Regional race, running the course in 22:55.  The Bloomfield, NY native was the first rookie to cross the finish line in the race.

The swimming and diving teams traveled to Rochester, NY to take on the RIT on Saturday.  First-year Katharina Weidhausser earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as she led the way in the Saints' convincing victory over the Tigers, 136-96.   She was a member of the winning 400 medley relay and had a pair of individual wins, touching first in the 200 free (2:01.22) and the 200 fly (2:17.10).

The men's soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, beating SUNYIT before falling to Amherst 3-2.  Sophomore Sam DeMello earned "Offensive Performer of the Week" as he set up all four goals for St. Lawrence in their NCAA tournament games, assisting on both in a 2-0 win over SUNYIT and doing the same in the 3-2 loss to Amherst.

Senior James Stewart earned "Defensive Performer of the Week" as he was a key contributor at both ends of the field in the Saints' two NCAA games.  His defensive efforts helped key a 2-0 shutout of SUNYIT in which the Saints allowed just six total shots and scored the game winning goal on a restart, moving up from the back.  He scored the first goal of the game on another restart against Amherst.

First-year Andrew Bednarsky earned "Rookie of the Week" for his outstanding performance at midfield, helping to start the attack as well as enabling the Saints to run their possession game in both NCAA appearances.

The Saints football team captured the Liberty League Conference title as they defeated the WPI Engineers 27-7 on Saturday.  Junior Marcus Washington earned "Co-Offensive Performer of the Week" as he broke the St. Lawrence single game rushing record, compiling 256 yards on 32 carries for an average of 8.0 yards per rush.

The football team will travel to the University of Mount Union on Saturday to take on the Purple Raiders in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

The cross-country teams will travel to Wartburg, IA to take part in the NCAA Championship race on Saturday.
