Five Saints Honored by Liberty League
Nov. 8: Five St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The Saints volleyball team went 4-0 in the Liberty League tournament en route to the program's first ever conference title. Leading the Saints to victory and earning "Co-Performer of the Week" honors was co-captain Abby Rose. The senior setter, who was named MVP of the tournament, compiled 157 assists (10.5 assists/set), 8 service aces, 50 digs (3.33/set), and 4.5 blocks on the weekend. She also contributed 19 kills on 51 attempts for a percentage of .314.
Earning "Co-Rookie of the Week" was Katie Prue, who had only one receiving error in 48 attempts, good for a .979 receiving percentage, helping the Saints to an undefeated weekend. The Lockport, NY native also recorded 5 service aces and 50 digs (3.33/set).
Also earning a conference title on Saturday was the men's soccer team, led by senior James Stewart who earned "Co-Defensive Performer of the Week" for his play in the middle of the backfield as the Saints battled Hamilton and RPI. Earning MVP honors in the Liberty League tournament, he helped hold both the Continentals and the Engineers to a combined six shots on goal in their games against the Saints. The St. Davids, ONT native also had an assist on breakout passes in each game.
Helping to spark the Saint offense were Sam DeMello and Adrian Bucksam who earned "Offensive Performer" and "Rookie of the Week", respectively. DeMello scored a goal in the Saints 3-2 overtime win over Hamilton in the Liberty League semifinals and assisted on a goal in the Saints championship win over RPI. Bucksam assisted on the game winning goal against Hamilton and scored the game winning goal lifting the Saints to the championship title against RPI.
The St. Lawrence football team hosts WPI on Saturday, Nov. 13th in hopes to become the sole 2010 Liberty League Champions. The men's soccer team will also host the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday.
