Saints Honored by Liberty League

Nov. 1: Eight St. Lawrence University student-athletes and a crew boat were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The men's and women's crew teams traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY to take part in the Head of the Fish Regatta on Saturday. The Saints women's novice 8+ earned "Co-Boat of the Week" as it posted a second-place finish with a time of 13:35.80, trailing only first-place Williams College. The crew was stroked by Alie Mihuta '14, while classmate Tori Vossler was the coxswain. Also powering the eight were Anna Lavanger '14, Alyssa Goley '14, Kait Murphy '14, Kye Ameden '14, Jenette Kloss '14, Abby McIvor '14, and sophomore Rachel Kuklinski '13.
The cross-country teams traveled to Geneva, NY for the 2010 Liberty League Championships. Junior John Johnston earned "Performer of the Week" as he won his first collegiate race on Saturday, leading St. Lawrence to the program's 17th consecutive conference title. The Rockwood, Ontario native ran the 8k course in a time of 26:08.66, less than one second ahead of the runner-up.
Senior captain Wendy Pavlus earned "Performer of the Week" as she won the Liberty League individual title for the second time in her career on Saturday. The Tupper Lake, NY native raced the 6k course in 22:35 and led the Saints to the program's ninth straight conference crown.
First-year student Amanda Moreland earned "Rookie of the Week" as she was the first rookie to cross the finish line at the 2010 Liberty League Championship race, also helping the Saints to the team title. Moreland raced in 23:35 to take sixth place overall.
The men's soccer team defeated arch-rival Clarkson University 3-0 on Saturday to complete an unbeaten Liberty League season. Senior Emmanuel Mbong earned "Co-Offensive performer of the Week" as he scored one goal and set up another in the Saints' win.
Junior Mike Manfredi earned "Co-Defensive Performer of the Week" as he set up the game-winning goal on a corner kick and helped limit the Golden Knights to a total of 10 shots, only three on goal, in the Saints win on Saturday.
The Saints swim teams faced Skidmore on Friday and Nazareth on Saturday. Jared Pellerin earned "Co-Swimmer of the Week" as he led the men's team to a 2-0 weekend, earning two individual victories in 1000 free (10:27.70) and the 200 fly (2:09.75) against the Thoroughbreds and three individual victories in the 200 free (1:53.38), the 200 butterfly (2:09.38) and the 500 free (5:09.80) against the Golden Flyers.
On the women's side, sophomore Casey Abribat earned "Co-Swimmer of the Week" as she posted four individual finishes as the Saints beat conference opponent Skidmore but fell to Nazareth. The Warwick, NY native won the 200 IM (2:19.04) and the 200 butterfly (2:23.04) on Friday and then the 200 IM (2:18.44) and the 200 back (2:19.12) on Saturday.
The volleyball team traveled to Nazareth, NY to take part in the Upstate Regional Challenge. First-year Katie Prue earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" as she helped the Saints to 4-1 record during the week, averaging 2.83 digs/set from the right back position and also adding a .214 hitting percentage with her back row attacks. The Lockport, NY native also added five service aces over the five matches.
The men's soccer team will battle Hamilton on Sandy MacCallister field this Tuesday, November 3rd at 2:30pm the first round of the Liberty League Soccer Championships.
The volleyball team is also hosting the 2010 Liberty League Volleyball Championship. The tournament will be kicked-off by a St. Lawrence vs. Clarkson match, November 5th at 4:00pm in Burkman Gymnasium.
