Six Saints Honored by Liberty League

Oct. 4: Six St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League Monday afternoon for their performances during the last week.
The Saints football team stunned Hobart College at Leckonby Stadium on Saturday afternoon as it defeated the Statesmen by the score of 24-21 in front of 1,825 fans during the University's Family Weekend. Senior wide-receiver Alcee Walker earned "Co-Performer of the Week" honors as he hauled in his first two career touchdown receptions, sparking the St. Lawrence offense. The West Palm Beach, NY native scored from 33 and 61 yards out to give St. Lawrence a 14-7 lead at the half.
Senior line-backer Ben Cryts earned "Co-Defensive Performer of the Week" honors as he had a huge defensive day for the Saints. The Derry, NH native accounted for four turnovers, as he had a career-high three interceptions and forced and recovered a fumble. He also added 10 tackles including 1.5 for a loss, helping the Saints to victory on Family Weekend. The win was St. Lawrence's first over Hobart since 1991.
The Saints cross-country teams traveled to Bethlehem, PA to take part in the multi-divisional 2010 Paul Short Invitational. Senior Dan Ramsey earned "Performer of the Week" as he paced they Saints to 22nd place. The Essex Junction, VT native was 56th overall out of 387 athletes, running the 8k course in 24:56.
First-year student Steve Petramel earned "Co-Rookie of the Week" honors as he ran the 8k course in 26:24. The Queensbury, NY native was 255th of 387 runners, the majority of which were Division I competitors.
Senior Wendy Pavlus earned "Co-Performer of the Week" as she finished in 22nd place out of 366 runners at the 2010 Paul Short Invitational. The Tupper Lake, NY native ran the 6k course in 21:06, posting the highest finish by a St. Lawrence runner at the event in program history.
The Saints men's soccer team took on the Potsdam State Bears on Tuesday. Sophomore Alex Laird earned "Co-Offensive Performer of the Week" honors as he scored two goals, including the game winner, and assisted on a third in a 6-1 win in the Saints lone game of the week. His midfield play helped the Saints limit Potsdam to four total shot attempts and just one on goal.
The St. Lawrence volleyball team will be traveling to Clarkson on Friday and Saturday to compete in the annual Clarkson Invitational. They take on Plattsburgh State at 3 pm on Friday.
The men's soccer team and the men's and women's cross-country teams will be competing at home this weekend. The soccer team will battle Skidmore at 4 pm on Friday and Union at 2pm on Saturday, while the cross-country team will host the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational on Saturday. The men are slated to begin at 12pm while the women will begin at 12:45pm.
