Oct. 2: The Liberty League announced its weekly award winners on Monday, and four St. Lawrence University student-athletes were honored for their athletic accomplishments.
Three first-year students earned Rookie of the Week honors, including Claire O'Neil of the women's golf team, Margaret MacDonald of the women's cross country squad and Brady Cooper of the field hockey team.
O'Neil shot her collegiate low with a 77 in the first round of the Wallace Invitational at Cortland and came back with an 82 in round two to finish second overall with a 159 total, helping the women's golf team to third place in the tournament.
MacDonald ran 22:02 to lead the Saints at the Division I dominated Paul Short Cross Country gold race. MacDonald's finish helped St. Lawrence to 24th place out of 40 teams.
Cooper recorded her first collegiate shutout with a 17-save effort against St. John Fisher and ran her shutout streak to 214:04 with a scoreless first half against Geneseo State. The Lakeville, CT native has a 0.29 goals against average and a .967 save percentage in her last four starts.
Finally, senior Sam Rakoc was named the Liberty League's Performer of the Week for men's cross country. Rakoc had the fifth-best finish among all Division III runners in the Paul Short Gold race, finishing 86th in 25:33 in a 330 runner field. It was one of the top times in St. Lawrence program history in four years of competition at Lehigh.
The nationally-ranked men's soccer team will host St. John Fisher tonight at Sandy MacAllaster Field at 4:00pm, and will be in action again on Saturday at home against conference rival Hobart. The men's and women's cross country teams will host the Ronald C.
