Sept. 25: The Liberty League announced its weekly award winners on Monday, and three St. Lawrence University first-year student-athletes were honored as Rookie of the Week for their athletic accomplishments.
First-year student Graham Niles shot back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish fourth and earn first team All Liberty League honors. His play helped the Saints qualify for the match play conference championship in the spring, and for his efforts, Niles was named the men's golf Rookie of the Week.
Lizzy Saward ignited the Saints' field hockey team's offense with a three-goal, one-assist game as St. Lawrence defeated Vassar 6-1 for their first win of the season. Saward scored her first collegiate goal, had her first collegiate assist and scored the game winner against the Brewers as part of a seven-point day.
Finally, St. Lawrence rookie goalkeeper Kelsey West recorded her third shutout of the season for the women's soccer team, as she kept Skidmore off the board with five saves in the Saints 0-0 double-overtime draw. It is the second time this fall that West has earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors.
Both the field hockey and volleyball teams will be in action on campus Tuesday night, with the field hockey squad facing St. John Fisher at 5:00pm and volleyball squaring off with Plattsburgh State at 6:00pm. The only team competing on campus this weekend is the nationally-ranked men's soccer team, which faces Vassar and Bard on Friday and Saturday.
