Saints Strong in Field Events at Ottawa Super Saturday

Jan. 12: Ella Martin was the first woman finisher in the 1500 and second in the 1000 and Jessica Tyree won the weight throw, highlighting a solid performance in the field events by the St. Lawrence University women's indoor track and field team as the Saints opened the 2013 portion of the indoor season at the Ottawa Super Saturday meet.
Martin, competing in races which included both men and women in the same race, ran 4:49.4, 11 seconds off the SLU record to lead the women and finish 15th overall in the 1500. She ran 3:04.67 to finish second in the 1000 meters.
Tyree threw 12.51 meters to win the weight throw and was fifth in the shot put at 10.64 meters. Kristen Linder was second in the weight throw at 12.21 meters and third in the shot with a 10.83 meter throw. The Saints also had solid showings in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and pole vault in the Ottawa meet.
Eliza Bell was second in the high jump at 1.61 meters with Marissa Turner third, also clearing 1.61. Divya Biswal was second in the long jump at 4.50 meters with Teresa Grigg fifth while Allison Scarf was second in the triple jump at 9.80 meters and fourth in the long jump. Marissa Rescott was fourth in the pole vault at 2.31 meters.
On the track, Carly Stine was fifth in the 60 hurdles in 10.25 with Scarf sixth and Stine added a ninth in the 300. Hannah Kinsey was 121th in the 60 meters at 8.26 and third among women in the 300 in 44.48. Ariel Beccia added a second among women in the 1500 in 4:56.22 while Lizzy Edwards was third and Carolone Raue fourth in the women's scoring in the 3000. The Saint 4x200 relay team ran 1:57.58 and was fourth.
The Saints will host the 2013 Saint Indoor Invitational on Jan. 19.
