Linder Wins Throws as Saints Open with Can-Am Challenge

Dec. 1: Junior Kristen Linder was a double winner in the throws and a number of St. Lawrence University track and field rookies had impressive performances in their first collegiate meet as the Saints opened the 2012-13 indoor season with the Can-Am Challenge at the Newell Field House on Saturday.
Ella Martin made an impressive track and field debut with a win in 17:39.11 in the 5000 meters, setting a meet record while Anna Rabideau won the mile in 5:36.41.
In field event competition, Linder won the shot put with a throw of 10.91 meters with Jessica Tyree second and Linder came back to win the weight throw with a meet record 13.33 throw with Tyree second. Marisa Turner set a meet record and came within .03 of the SLU indoor record with a win in the high jump at 1.63 meters while Sarah Francesconi was fourth. Emily Rebehn won the triple jump with a 9.89 mark and finished sixth in the long jump.
Other top track finishes included a second in the 500 meters in 1:20.11 by Jess Marini, and a a third in the 60 hurdles by Cassia Hameline with Kylee Disotelle fourth. Lizzy Edwards was second and Caroline Raue third in the 5000 while Toria Koutras finished fourth in the mile. Kelsey Leder finished fifth in the 3000.
