Bell, Stine, Roberts To Compete at NCAA Championships

May 21: Three St. Lawrence University athletes will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, CA Thursday through Saturday.
Senior sprinter Jarell Roberts will run in the 100 meter dash while first-year athletes Carly Stine and Eliza Bell will represent the Saints in the 400 meter individual hurdles and the high jump respectively at the national championship meet.
Roberts who earned his way to the meet with a 10.68 clocking in the 100 at the Liberty League Championships which tied for 21st nationally. His position in the 20-runner national field opened up when one runner did not declare for the event and his second best time for the season of 10.71 run in the preliminaries of the NYSCTC Championships was the tie breaker. He will compete in the preliminaries at 6:50 p.m. Pacific time on Friday.
Roberts was Liberty League and NYSCTC champion in the 100 and was also Liberty League champion in the 200 meters. He also ran on the record-setting Saint 4x100 relay which ran 41.94. He had a season's best 9.50 split in that event at the NYSCTC Championships.
Bell and Stine both comfortably made the 22-participant fields in their events for the women's competition, although Bell's qualifying jump came in the last meet of the regular season. Her SLU record-setting jump of 1.69 meters to win the ECAC Championship on Friday put her ninth in the nation in the high jump. She is the SLU record-holder in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. The high jump competition will begin at 2:15 PT on Friday.
Stine first appeared in the top-22 list for NCAA competition after winning the NYSCTC Championship with a 1:03.48 clocking in the 400 intermediate hurdles. She improved her time to 1:02.48 in the Oneonta May meet, nudged it to 1:02.46 at the ECAC Championships and is ranked 17th in her event based on that performance. Stine will run in the preliminaries at 5:05 PT on Thursday.
