Saints Down RIT in Liberty League Quarterfinals

May 4: The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated RIT by the score of 5-1 in the Liberty League Tennis Championship quarterfinal. The Saints will face host Vassar in the semifinal on Saturday at 12:00pm at Josselyn Tennis Courts.

First-year students Elkie Vandenbeemt and Olivia Arroyo were both double-winners for the Saints. Vandenbeemt topped Kristen Rice 6-1,6-1 at No. 2 singles and teamed up with senior Hillary Drewry at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-1 victory. Arroyo won at No. 3 singles, 6-1,6-0 and No. 3 doubles, 8-3, with classmate Anna Young.

Junior Shannon Murphy rounded out the Saints' scoring with a win at No. 5 singles, 6-1,6-0. Drewry, Young and junior Elizabeth Geer were all leading their opponents before the match came to decision.
