Three Saints Advance To Finals At NYS Championship

Oct. 15: The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team had another successful day of competition, advancing athletes to three of nine final matches at the NY State Division III championships. Rookies Elkie Vandenbeemt and Olivia Arroyo advanced in second and third singles, respectively. Vandenbeemt, along with senior Hillary Drewry, are vying for a championship title in first doubles.
The tournament finals will be played tomorrow, October 16 at the Mendon Racquet Club in Mendon, NY.
Earlier in the day, Vandenbeemt shut out NYU's Ariel Sultan, 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. She will face Skidmore's Tory Engros in the finals.
Arroyo topped William Smith's Joanie Hilton, 6-3, 6-3, at third singles and will battle Skidmore's Robyn Baird in the finals.
In doubles action, Vandenbeemt and Drewry teamed up to defeat Molly Nolan and Tory Engros of Skidmore at first doubles by the score of 8-3. They will face Joy Backer and Samantha Schapiro of Vassar tomorrow in the finals.
