Saints Overpower Plattsburgh, 9-0

The Saints wore pink on Sunday in support of the "Power of Pink" week.

Oct. 2: The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team powered past Plattsburgh State, 9-0, to earn a dual match victory on Sunday afternoon in the Newell Field House. The Saints, ranked No. 16 in the Northeast Region, improve to 2-0, while Plattsburgh drops to 5-6 on the season. 

Senior Hillary Drewry earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Hodnett at No. 1 singles, while first-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt downed Samantha Engebrecht, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. At No. 3, first-year student Olivia Arroyo earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jessica Paquette, and at No. 4 singles junior Shannon Murphy picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kristen Carse. Rounding out the scoring was rookie Anna Young at No. 5, who defeated Stephanie Omlin 6-4, 6-2, and senior Barry Edgar at No. 6, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Amy Rich.

In doubles action, Drewry and Vandenbeemt continued their dominant play, rolling past Engebrecht and Paquette. , 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. Murphy and Young teamed up at No. 2 to earn a tight victory over Hodnett and Rich, 8-6, while the duo of Edgar and Langsdale completed the doubles sweep with a win over Caitlin Belladone and Samantha Fasciano by the score of 8-2.

The Saints will travel to Middlebury on Oct. 8-9 to take part in the Gail Smith Doubles tournament.
