Saints Start Season Strong at Mary Hosking Invitational

Hillary Drewry '12 went 2-0 in the first day of the Mary Hosking Invitational.

Sept. 10:  The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team opened up its 2011 campaign strong  today at the Mary Hosking Invitational in Geneva, NY.  Senior Hillary Drewry and first-year students Elkie Vandenbeemt and Olivia Arroyo each advanced to the semifinals in the A Flight singles bracket, winning all of their matches on the day.

Drewry, a 2010 Liberty League first team selection, started the year off strong as she posted victories over RIT's Liz Uhrinec (8-2) and William Smith's Casey Kennedy (8-3).  Vandenbeemt and Arroyo also went 2-0 in their debuts St. Lawrence.  Vandenbeemt defeated Monica Vieth of Geneseo (8-4) and Alex Goodman of Rochester (8-4), while Arroyo topped Becky Guzzo of Ithaca (8-2) and Dexuan Yuan of Geneseo (8-5).

In C Flight, first-year student Suzanne Weinstein earned a victory over RIT's Caili Nizamis (8-4), while classmate Hannah Langsdale defeated Williams Smith's Katie Drinkwater (8-3) in the D Flight Consolations after falling to Rochester's Rachel Suresky (8-3) earlier in the day.
