Olivia Arroyo '15 edged her opponent in a third set tie breaker on Friday evening.

March 8:  The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team, ranked #15 in the Northeast, earned a 6-3 victory over regionally-ranked #18 New Paltz in the Newell Field House on Friday evening.  The Saints improve to 2-1 on the season and will head down to Orlando, FL on Saturday to play several matches during the University's spring break.  Meanwhile, the Hawks fall to 8-4.

St. Lawrence opened up to a 2-1 lead after doubles play.  Elkie Vandenbeemt and Shannon Murphy teamed up at second doubles to top Paige Munroe and Devin Tracy, 8-1, while Olivia Arroyo and Sami Miller defeated Alli Esposito and Jessica Schmidt at third doubles by the score of 8-4.

Elizabeth Geer and Morgan McNeal were defeated by Montana Wilson and Kayla DiPaulo at first doubles, 8-2.

In singles play, Vandenbeemt earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Wilson at one, but the next four singles matches were played to three sets.  McNeal clinched the match for the Saints at two with a victory over DiPaulo, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. 

Arroyo battled back from a set down at three and defeated Munroe in a third set tie breaker, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4), while Murphy earned a three set victory over Schmidt at five, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

At four, Geer won the first set of her match, but Esposito came back to win the second and then pulled out the victory in the third set, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.  Miller battled back from a set down against Laura Tierney at six, but would fall in the tie breaker, 6-2, 1-6 (10-5).
