Saints Compete at ITA Championships

Sep. 22-23: The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team competed in the first day of the ITA Championships on Saturday in Geneva, NY. Sophomores Elkie Vandenbeemt and Olivia Arroyo posted first round wins for the Saints in singles play.
Arroyo blanked Hallsey Leighton of William Smith in the first round by the score of 8-0. Skidmore's Nataly Mendoza, however, bumped Arroyo out of the main draw as she edged her 8-6. Vandenbeemt earned an 8-3 win over Lauren Balsamo from The College of New Jersey before falling to Jordan Zola of Skidmore, 8-5 in the second round of the main draw. Rookie Morgan McNeal fell to Frances Tseng of Rochester by the score of 8-5.
In doubles play, senior Shannon Murphy and sophomore Anna Young battled Kirsten Ackerman and Mackenzie Riley from Sage, but fell by the score of 9-7. McNeal and Vandenbeemt also competed in doubles and were defeated by Cara Genbauffe and Tseng of Rochester by the score of 8-3.
McNeal played Natalie Santiago of Vassar in a consolation match and won by the score of 8-1.
