Caligiore Named All America, Finishes Tied for 14th at NCAA Tourney

St. Lawrence University sophomore Aimee Caligiore earned All Region honors and was selected as an honorable mention All America with the awards announced at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in Florida Wednesday night. The first All America win women's program history, Caligiore shot one of the best rounds of the day on Thursday, and jumped from a tie for 35th to a tie for 14th. She finished tied for 14th when Friday's final round was called due to bad weather.
Caligiore was on a pace to record a top ten finish when Friday's final round was wiped out by storms, but her 14th place final finish is the best in program history for a Saint woman in the NCAA tournament.
Aimee shot her best NCAA round in Thursday's round three with a 78 trimming 10 strokes off her Wednesday round in which she struggled the front nine in an early group, shooting 46, but had five pars on the back nine and finished with a 42 for an 88. Her 78 was one of only eight rounds under 80 on day three. She was tied for 14th after the opening round with an 81 as the field again had difficulty scoring on the tough track with nearly half the field failing to break 90. Just nine players out of the 100 in the field broke 80 on Wednesday with a low round of 76.
She had two birdies and two bogies in an even par 36 on the front on Thursday and had a birdie, but tripled te par five 17th on the back for a 42 to complete her five-over par round of 78, which is the third best round in program history by a Saint player in the NCAA tournament.
Caligiore improved her best NCAA tournament score by five strokes with Tuesday's 81 and was tied for the best score among the individual participants in the tournamen after round onet. Four players shot 77 with one at 78, two at 79 and six at 80 in round one.
Caligiore started her opening day on the back nine, shooting a five over 42 and rallied from a double bogie on the first hole to start her second nine, carding her lone birdie of the day with a two on the 163 yard par three second. She finished the front nine with five pars and two bogies for a three-over 39 to complete her 81.
