Muzzatti Is Medalist, Saints Win Tournament Title

Sept. 13: Junior Alair Muzzatti shot her collegiate low with a first-round 75 at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course and went on to earn medalist honors with a second round 78, leading the Saints to their second straight team title in the St. Lawrence Invitational.
Muzzatti's two-round total of 153 was also her collegiate low and was four strokes better than runner-up Keely Levins of Middlebury. The Saints had their four scorers all finish in the top ten and set a program record two-round low of 636. The Saints had a 317 team score counting the best four of five on Saturday and came back with a 319 on Sunday to win by 36
strokes over second place SUNY Cortland.
Kristin Berretta was third for the Saints with rounds of 78 and 80 for a 158 total while first year player Aimee Caligiore had the low round of the day on Sunday and matched Muzzatti's tourney low with a three-over 75 and finished fourth with a 85-75-160 score. Sophomore Melissa Snizek, who was battling illness on Sunday came through with rounds of 79 and 186 for a 165 total and finished tied for ninth while senior Cait Cunningham shot 97-88 for a 185 total and tied for 24th.
“Alair puts in a ton of time on her game and it showed in the tournament,” said Saint coach Mary Lawrence. “She played two very consistent rounds. The whole team played well this weekend. Aimee Caligioreshowed a little nervousness on Saturday, but really shot lights out on Sunday and is going to be a very significant addition to our lineup. Melissa Snizek hung in there despite being sick and Kristen played two solid rounds. Cait came back from a tough day on Saturday with a significant improvement on Sunday…I think we have the makings of a very good team.”
New York University finished third with Middlebury fourth, Nazareth fifth, St. John Fisher sixth, Ithaca seventh and William Smith eighth.
The Saints will take a step up in competition at the Dartmouth Invitational next weekend, playing in a field which includes both Division I and III teams on Saturday and Sunday in Hanover.
