Berretta 8th, Saints 5th at Vassar

April 5: Junior Kristin Berretta shot rounds of 83 and 81 under less than ideal conditions to finish tied for eighth overall and help the Saint women's golf team to a tie for fifth at the Vassar Invitational Saturday and Sunday.


The Saints finished with a two round total of 712 strokes, tied with Mt. Holyoke College for fifth place in a 10-team field. Amherst won the tournament with a 668 total with Middlebury second, Vassar third and SUNY Cortland fourth.


Only two golfers broke 80 in Saturday's opening round and just four shot in the 70s on Sunday on the 5847 yard, par-72 course.


Alair Muzzatti tied for 13th with rounds of 87 and 86 for a 173 total while Lindsay Cone, playing her first rounds of the season after completing an outstanding ski season with All America performances in the national championships shot rounds of 91 and 92 and was 27th. Melissa Snizek shot 95 and 101 for a 196 total and was tied for 35th while Cait Cunningham bounced back from an opening round of 105 with a 97 on Sunday to finish as the Saints' fourth scorer in round two and had a 202 total.
