Saints Erg 100,000-Meters As Team Fundraiser

Feb. 15: The St. Lawrence University crew program completed a 100,000-meter Challenge last Friday in the Multipurpose room as a team fundraiser for its upcoming training trip to Tampa, FL.
Both the men's and women's teams, which total 43 student-athletes, took turns rowing 350-meter pieces on an ergometer. The team members rowed an average split of 1:38.1, beating their timing goal of 1:40.
The challenge, which lasted five hours and 27 minutes total, took the place of the crew team's traditional fundraiser of a 24-hour "erg-a-thon".
"The 100k challenge made it possible for all members of the men's and women's teams to be present for the duration of the challenge," said senior Amanda Brewer. "Having every member of the two teams there to cheer each other on and help with transitions on and off the erg was in large part why were were so successful last Friday. It was a great way for the teams to bond and show off the hard work we have been putting into our winter training."
"This event also gave us an opportunity to show members of the campus community who the St. Lawrence men's and women's crew teams are, as well as our determination and strength to continue being successful on and off the water," added Brewer.
The St. Lawrence men's and women's crew teams are expected to open their 2012 season on the water during the team's trip to Tampa, FL over the University's spring break.
