The Saints' Varsity 8+ boat finished second in the Petite Final on Saturday.

May 29: Saturday offered a familiar finish for the St. Lawrence University women's crew team, as the Saints' Varsity 8+ boat finished second in the Petite Final at the 2010 NCAA Championships in Gold River, CA.  It is the second straight year the Scarlet and Brown have been the runner-up in the Petite Final.

The Saints' Varsity 8+ raced in a time of 7:10.49, falling just shy of Wellesley College in a very close competition.  The Saints, who had defeated Wellesley in earlier heats, finished nearly five seconds out of the top spot in the Petite Final on Lake Natoma.  St. Lawrence defeated William Smith, Bates (JV), Ithaca (JV) and Trinity (JV) in the race.

The Varsity 8+ boat was stroked by junior Elizabeth Stokes-Cawley, while classmate Lauren Reed was the coxswain. Also rowing in the Dr. Daniel F. Sullivan '65 boat for St. Lawrence were seniors Jane Connolly, Amelia Bell, Amelia Lalley and Eloise Lachance, sophomore Kathleen Slocum and first-year students Jessica Burdett and Margaret Fellows.

Meanwhile, the Saints' JV 8+ boat also ran second to Wellesley College in the Third Final prior to the Petite race.  The Scarlet and Brown finished a mere 1.14 seconds behind Wellesley in 7:10.49 while defeating Puget Sound (JV) and Mary Washington.

Senior Jackie Costas stroked the boat, while first-year student Rachel Gartland was the coxswain. Rowing the "Cold North Wind" boat were seniors Kate Roy, Briana Kehl and Erin Hussey, sophomores Brianna Tidd and Jeannine Condon and first-year students Britton Weber and Madeline Fones.

Williams College's Varsity 8+ boat won the 2010 National Championship by winning the Grand Final ahead of Bates College.  The Ephs' JV 8+ boat finished third overall as well.
