#6 Saints Earn Silver at NYS Championships

May 2: The #6 St. Lawrence University women's crew team looked very strong as both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight placed second in the grand finals at the New York State Championships Sunday, in Whitney Point, NY.
The Saints' varsity eight earned silver for the third year in a row, falling to #2 Ithaca College. The Bombers topped the Scarlet and Brown by a couple seats of open water, crossing the finish line in 6:50.38. St. Lawrence followed with a time of 6:56.31, handily defeating conference opponent William Smith, who earned a time of 7:01.52. Marist (7:06.36) and Skidmore (7:07.52) followed, finishing neck and neck of each other, while the University of Rochester rounded out the event with a time of 7:09.02.
Junior All-American Lizzy Stokes-Cawley stroked the 1V, while first-year Jessica Burdett sat seven seat, senior Amelia Bell sat six seat, first-year Maggie Fellows sat five seat, senior Amelia Lalley sat four seat, senior Eloise Lachance sat three seat, sophomore Kathleen Slocum sat two seat and senior Jane Connolly sat bow. Junior Lauren Reed coxed the varsity crew.
St. Lawrence's second varsity eight also had a successful day, bringing home another silver medal. Ithaca nipped the Saints by about half a boat length to secure the gold, however the top three crews all finished within a five second margin. The Bombers finished with a time of 7:10.54, while the Saints crossed the line in 7:13.49. Marist then followed two seconds later with a time of 7:15.33. Conference opponent William Smith took fourth with a time of 7:24.25, while Skidmore (7:27.68) finished fifth maintaining conection with the Herons. The University of Rochester took sixth with a time of 7:35.25.
Senior Jackie Costas stroked the Saints' 2V, while senior Erin Hussey sat seven seat, sophomore Jeannine Condon sat six seat, senior Briana Kehl sat five seat, first-year Maddy Fones sat four seat, first-year Britton Weber sat three seat, sophomore Brianna Tidd sat two seat, and senior Katie Roy sat bow. First-year Rachel Gartland coxed the boat.
The Saints will be back in action Saturday, May 8th - Sunday, May 9th when they compete in the ECAC Championships.
