Three Saints Earn All-Conference Honors

Kara McDuffee '15 earned First Team All-Conference honors in her sophomore season.

Feb. 21:  Three members of the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team earned All-Liberty League honors for their play throughout the 2012-13 campaign.  Sophomore Kara McDuffee was named First Team All-Conference, while junior Kelly Legg was tabbed for the Second Team.  First-year student Amanda Roberts earned Honorable Mention status and was a unanimous choice to the league's All-Rookie team. 

McDuffee, who earned All-Rookie honors last season, earns First Team honors for the first time in her career.  The Owego, NY native has led the Saints in numerous statistical categories throughout the season, including scoring as she averages 15.0 points per game.  She has reached double figures in points in 20-of-26 games this season, and has posted a team-high four double doubles.  A versatile and hard-working guard, McDuffee ranks in the top-10 in every statistical category kept by the Liberty League, and is also ranked 8th nationally in free throw percentage.

Legg gained league recognition for the third year in a row, earning Second Team All-Conference honors for the second time in her career.  The Fairport, NY native became the 12th player in the women's program's history to reach the 1,000 point milestone on Feb. 16 against William Smith.  The team's second-leading scorer, she reached double digits in scoring in 19 games this season and is ranked top-10 in the league in several statistical categories.

Roberts, a unanimous choice for the league's All-Rookie team, earned Honorable Mention status in her debut with the Saints.  On Wednesday, the true point guard established a new single-season record for assists, breaking Meredith Eisenhut's mark of 132 that was set in 32 games in the 2001-02 season.  On Jan. 18, her 14 assists against William Smith was one shy of tying the program's record for most assists in a game that was set in 1986.  The Adams, NY native ranks second in the conference in assists and is third in assists to turnover ratio.

Additionally, three Saints earned spots on the Liberty League All-Academic list including McDuffee, who was a nominee for the CapitalOne Academic All-America Team honor.  She was joined by junior co-captains Cassie St. Hilaire and Hannah Wilson in being recognized for their academic performances in the classroom.  

Vassar's Cydni Matsuoka earned Player of the Year honors, while the Brewers' Head Coach Candice Brown and her assistants were named Coaching Staff of the Year.  Skidmore's Jordan Wartts earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, and Clarkson's Ashley Loggins and Bard's Tytravia Riley were Co-Rookies of the Years.
