Pirinelli, Pavlus Earn Liberty League Track and Field Honors, Saints 5th in Program of the Year Standings

St. Lawrence University senior Alyssa Pirinelli was named the Liberty League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and junior Wendy Pavlus was selected as the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in voting by the league's coaches.
Additonally the Saint team finished fifth in the final Program of the Year standings as compiled by the USTFCCCA. The Saints placed second in cross country, third indoors and were 21st outdoors to finish with 26.5 points, tying Williams among the 14 teams which qualified for the Program of the Year award by placing in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.
Pirinelli swept the Liberty League Field Performer of the Year awards for the third straight year after earning 2007 Outdoor Rookie of the Year and 2007 Indoor Rookie and Co-Field Performer of the Year Awards. Pavlus, the 2008 Outdoor Rookie of the Year and co-Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and 2009 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, also swept the Liberty League Track Performer of the Year awards this season.
Both Pavlus and Pirinelli won two NCAA individual championships in the 2009-10 academic year as Pavlus was NCAA Division III cross country champion and the indoor 5000 meter champion in track while Pirinelli won both the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor shot put titles.
The Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year for the USTFCCCA, Pavlus met NCAA qualification in the 1500, 3000 steeplechase, 5,000 and 10,000 in the outdoor season. She was the Liberty League and NYSCTC steeplechase champion, setting meet records in both meets and an association record in the states. She had the best 10k time in the nation and was fourth in the 5k. She was Liberty League Track Performer of the Week six times in the spring season. She did not compete in the outdoor NCAA championships due to a conflict with a Summer Abroad program.
Pirinelli was NCAA Division III Outdoor shot put champion, her second national title of the year, and also earned All America with a sixth in the NCAA hammer throw. She was NYSCTC shot and hammer champion and third in the discus, was ECAC shot and hammer champion and set the Liberty League shot and hammer records. She was Liberty League Field Athlete of the Week seven times in the outdoor season.
